On this day in 1989 Hungary gave permission for thousands of East German refugees to emigrate to West Germany. With the opening of those floodgates, Communist hold on Europe began to falter. As far as I can see, socialism, communism and fascism are the strongest evidence for the fallen nature of man, whether you call it “original sin” or “original stupidity.” After these ideologies have murdered roughly 100 million souls, fomented countless wars, & inflicted immeasurable cruelty on humanity, millions of morons today, most of them American voters, keep thumping for socialism. One suspects it’s not so much that they don’t learn as that they can’t learn, so strong is the desire to pick one’s brother’s pocket.
