Dear America,

Nicely done. You just bought yourselves a whole lot of bad debt! The big banks and international financiers thank you. But don’t worry about the debt, those Nice Government Men will take good care of your grandkids’ money. You just let your trusty banker handle your assets and leave it up to those Nice Government Men to look after the money. Oh and don’t try to close your bank account! Little know fact: The banks don’t actually have any cash. Greed decrees they keep no reserves and put everything “to work”. They would lose money leaving cash laying around the vault.

Oh ya, Big Oil and the Saudi Royal Family also thank you. Little known fact: We never needed gasoline in the first place. The first car was invented to run on alcohol. Gasoline wasn’t even available until John D. Rockefeller schemed up a way to get rid of all that toxic waste his buddies had on their hands. So he gave the stuff away until he spent $4 million (that we know of) to promote Prohibition, a ban on alcohol manufacturing in the US. And you probably thought Prohibition had something to do with moral decay in America. Nope, just a ruthless businessman getting rid of the competition.

P.S. Russian Organized Crime, The Italian Mafia, and the International Drug Cartels also thank you. Little know fact: That’s were the money laundered through the real estate market goes.

What a crazy world we live in. Yesterday, gold staged it’s largest rise in history (11%). Gold rose as high as $920 USD per ounce. Then about 14:30 eastern time, gold crashed and stocks rallied. Stocks ended with a big up swing and the US dollar index rose 11 basis points to 78.24.

So what caused this alchemical change? US treasury secretary Hank Paulson spoke about a plan “to deal with bad debt similar to the creation of the Resolution Trust Corporation in 1989 that resolved the US savings & loan crisis.” That caused the market to rally. Now get this: there is no plan. There was no deal. Hank “The Honker” Paulson merely “spoke about” a plan.

Spider Webs? Welcome to the new world of the government run economy.

Very slow delivery and shortages still rule the physical silver and gold markets. Call me crazy, but I’m swapping my gold for silver since the financial crisis has driven down silver against gold.

How does foreign policy affect gas prices? One important factor is that since 1973 all oil has primarily been bought and sold using US dollars. Only two leaders have gone against this arrangement - Saddam Hussein in 2000 and more recently Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Another major factor is US military intervention in foreign affairs. International conflicts often have more to do with oil than our leaders will acknowledge. The contributing factors in the price of oil are complicated, but we can be sure of one thing. When the US military drives down the value of the dollar by waging war, the price of gas will surely rise.

On this day in 1989 Hungary gave permission for thousands of East German refugees to emigrate to West Germany. With the opening of those floodgates, Communist hold on Europe began to falter. As far as I can see, socialism, communism and fascism are the strongest evidence for the fallen nature of man, whether you call it “original sin” or “original stupidity.” After these ideologies have murdered roughly 100 million souls, fomented countless wars, & inflicted immeasurable cruelty on humanity, millions of morons today, most of them American voters, keep thumping for socialism. One suspects it’s not so much that they don’t learn as that they can’t learn, so strong is the desire to pick one’s brother’s pocket.
